Outcome 1

Articulate a philosophy of client-centered information services based on the epistemological and ethical foundations of the library and information professions.

As I bridge the gap between technology and librarianship, I have quickly learned that if I know my clients’ (and/or audience) needs and skill levels, I can better communicate with them. Many of my SLIM classes have helped me build the skills to better evaluate my clients’ needs.

The first artifact I have chosen is a presentation and article review I did for Structure and Organization of Information Technologies. I reviewed an article of that described a case study of a library implementing a content management system (CMS), and then created a presentation for my class. I had to be aware that many students in that class only had basic technological knowledge and had to develop the presentation in a way that the class would be able to grasp what a content management system was.

The second artifact is a more traditional example of providing client-centered services. It is my final project from Basic Print and Electronic Information Resources, where I gathered and reviewed 11 reference sources for political science undergraduates at a small university.
